Opti Race Team – Ages 8-15

Our Opti Race Team is the perfect program for young sailors looking to build their racing skills and compete in local and regional regattas. This program provides a strong foundation in boat handling, tactics, and race strategy while fostering a love for competitive sailing in a fun and supportive environment. Sailors will have the opportunity to race against other young sailors in the Northwest Youth Racing Circuit (NWYRC) and beyond.

Team Structure

Sailors are placed into one of two fleets based on their experience and skill level:

• Development Race Team (aka "Green Fleet"): For Opti sailors ages 8-13 who already know how to sail and are tuning their skills for racing, including the Rules of Sailing, starts, and race strategy. Sailors should be comfortable sailing in up to 12 knots of wind.

• Race Team (aka "Gold Fleet"): For sailors ages 10-15 who already know how to sail, race, and are very familiar with the Racing Rules of Sailing. They are working on improving their boat speed, handling, boat-to-boat tactics, and race strategy to be more competitive. Sailors should be comfortable sailing in up to 20 knots of wind. They are fast on their tacks and confident on their downwinds, even in high wind.

• Regional Race Team: This is our Opti Advanced race team for sailors who already have a lot of experience racing and are interested in racing outside of our region. They are working on advanced racing tactics and fine-tuning their boat handling and speed. Sailors should be comfortable sailing in winds of more than 20 knots. They have full control of their boats and can execute maneuvers without thinking. They can keep their attention outside of the boat and hike for more than 15 min at a time.

Fall Pricing
