Doublehanded Race Team – Ages 13-18
The Doublehanded Race Team trains and competes in FJs and C420s as part of the Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA). This program is perfect for sailors looking to refine their racing skills, compete in local regattas, and be part of a supportive team environment. Sailors will develop advanced boat handling, tactical decision-making, and teamwork while traveling to regattas across the Pacific Northwest.
Team Structure
Sailors are placed into one of three pods based on their experience and skill level:
J Pod (Advanced): Our most competitive group, made up of experienced sailors who are ready to race at the highest level. J Pod competes in major NWISA regattas and aims for top finishes.
K Pod (Intermediate): Designed for sailors with a year or two of race team experience, this pod focuses on refining boat handling, starts, and race tactics.
L Pod (Developing): The entry point for newer sailors transitioning into competitive racing. L Pod builds confidence, foundational racing skills, and regatta experience.
Spring Pricing
J Pod: $825
K Pod: $780
L Pod: $625
Spring Practice Schedule
Spring practices start the week of March 3-7 and end the week of June 2-6.
All practices run from 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM, with sailors encouraged to arrive early to rig:
Pod | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
J Pod | J Pod Practice | J Pod Practice | Race Day | J Pod Boat Loading
K Pod | K Pod Practice | K Pod Practice | Race Day
L Pod | L Pod Practice | Race Day | L Pod Practice |
From early April onward the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle runs dinghy racing on Thursdays. Youth sailors are welcome to compete if they have 5 or more boats in their class (a class is a grouping of boats of the same design). Thursday racing will not be coached, so parent volunteers will need to drive a coach boat.
Regattas & Competition
The team competes in NWISA regattas throughout the season, offering a mix of fleet and team racing events. These events are a great opportunity for sailors to test their skills, improve under race conditions, and represent their schools.
