Open Boating Questions
What boats are available to rent?
We have a fleet of sailing dinghies for all ages from 8 to 108, including:
SailQubes - cute and cheerful boats that offer simple sailing for one or two youth.
RS Fevas - Entry-level double-handed dinghy for two youngsters or a parent / child team.
Harpoon 5.2 - Stable weighted-centerboard dinghies for 2-4 adults.
RS Venture - A slightly more technical stable dinghy for 2-4 adults.
When are boats available to rent?
For now, we are offering limited opportunities for open boat rentals during periods where we already have staff and volunteers on the water. Currently, adult boats are available Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons from 5 PM - 8PM in June, July, and August. Youth boats are only available on Fridays during summer camp (June 23 - August 29th).
All availability is subject to change.
What qualification is required to rent a boat?
Sailors must pass a skill test before they are allowed to rent a boat by themselves. This skill test includes:
Rig the boat without assistance.
Leave the dock safely.
Sail upwind with 2-3 tacks.
Sail downwind with 2-3 gybes.
Capsize and recovery the boat (Youth dinghies only)
Return to dock safely.
The easiest way to pass our skill test is to take one of our summer camps or adult sailing lessons! Otherwise, please contact us to schedule a skills test.
The Dockmaster on duty has final say regarding the ability of a sailor to rent a boat.
Registration Questions
Do I need a Clubspot account to register for events?
No, you can go through the checkout process with or without a Clubspot account. If you have an existing Clubspot account you can use that, but there's no need to create an account.
Can I register multiple participants at once? Can I register for multiple classes at once?
Clubspot allows for registration in multiple classes at the same time, but only allows one participant to register at a time. Unfortunately you will have to go through the checkout process for each participant separately.
What is the difference between credit card payment and bank transfer (ACH)?
ACH bank transfers pay for programs directly from your bank account and incur no fee, while credit cards include a 3.3% fee.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
We're so glad you asked! You can read all about it here.
What is your policy on cancellations due to weather or smoke / poor air quality?
Excellent question! You can read all about it here.
Do I have to be a CYC Member in order to register for CYC Community Sailing Center events?
No. CYC Community Sailing Center programs were previously a part of CYC Seattle, a 501(c)(7) non-profit yacht club which required participants to be members of the club. The CYC Community Sailing Center is now a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which means CYC membership is no longer required to participate in our programs.
That said, the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle remains an affordable and valuable community to be a part of, and your membership indirectly supports our efforts. To learn more, visit https://cycseattle.org.

Summer Sailfest
Party Every Friday
Every Friday afternoon in the summer, Shilshole Marina comes alive with laid-back sailing opportunities for the entire community! Whether you're a fresh graduate of one of our sailing classes or a dyed-in-the-salt sailor, there is fun to be had on the water this summer.
Hosted by Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC), Seattle Sailing Club (SSC), and Sloop Tavern Yacht Club (STYC), Sailfest consists of open boating on the Sound, with casual "beer can buoy" racing, and an after party with free food and cheap beer at the CYC clubhouse.
Summer campers who have successfully completed one of our youth or teen sailing courses are invited to show off their new sailing skills at no additional charge. Graduates of our adult sailing classes, or sailors who have completed a skills test are welcome to rent one of our sailing dinghies.
After sailing, come to the CYC Clubhouse for free food, cheap beer, and raffle prizes. Bar and BBQ open around 7:30 pm.
